The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) is a government corporate entity mandated to:
- Serve as a vital force in attaining and sustaining the country's goal of self-sufficiency in rice and in promoting greater access of farmers to agricultural technologies.
- Lead, unify, and strengthen the manpower capabilities and improve the facilities of agencies involved in the national rice research and development program.
PhilRice implements four rice R&D programs for 2006-2010: favorable ecosystem, unfavorable ecosystem, impact and policy research, and knowledge management and promotion. Its activities are focused, output driven, and anchored on the technology needs of the integrated rice crop management and rice-based farming systems. These programs are designed for more efficient and effective systems for technology generation, packaging, and delivery to the Filipino farmers.
