ICISworkbook is an Excel Add-in application that aims to help breeders and encoders to easily adopt ICIS as a very useful and friendly tool in keeping track of vital information in your plant breeding activities. It was designed to make the most of users’ reliance and convenience in using Excel to immediately store and manipulate breeding data. But recognizing the fact that data in spreadsheets are very prone to unintentional modifications and lost, ICISworkbook uses Excel only as a data entry interface. It uploads your data to a backend database and at the same time offers you a variety of tools to manipulate, analyze, query and report back your needed information.

To immediately demonstrate the practical use of this software, a simple breeding workflow for rice is given below. You will be guided along the way on how to use the functionalities of ICISworkbook as you go through the breeding program.

1. Forming the hybridization block

2. Reserving seeds from the inventory

3. Generating the F1 crosses

4. Deriving the F2 nursery

5. Creating the F3 and F4 nurseries

6. Designing a workbook template for recording the characteristics of the F3 plants

7. Creating a fieldbook for compairing the F4 plants' characteristics with their parents

8. Generating a statistical design on a fieldbook for a replicated yield trial

9. Depositing seeds to the inventory

10. Administering the seed inventory: commit or cancel transaction, transfer seed location, repack seed units, etc.

11. Loading seed viability data

12. <more>

Since we also expect that you already have your own breeding data in various Excel files, ICISworkbook offers the following functionalities to help you easily migrate your old data into ICIS:

1. Converting a regular Excel file into ICISworkbook

2. Creating a customized set of name standardization rules

3. Establishing valid values for scales used
